Hypnotherapy for Anxiety is a form of therapy that has been increasingly sought after in the last couple of years. It offers the possibility of relatively quick change as opposed to going for counseling or any other form of talkative therapy, which can last for years. Indeed, you generally do not need years of therapy to resolve anxiety issues. However, as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist I understand that hypnotherapy might not be enough for resolving most of the issues completely, therefore I employ a variety of different techniques while working with my clients, including CBT, TA, coaching and EMI, to name just a few.

What is Anxiety

We all experience anxiety at some point in our life. We can feel anxious before an exam or a very important client presentation. Yet for people suffering from anxiety it is slightly different. The anxiety is with them on daily or weekly basis, and can even dictate their life. Sometimes the anxiety is evoked by negative thoughts, low self-esteem or doubt, and other times by their environment.

There are different forms of anxiety and they should not be taken lightly. If you are already considering seeking professional help, then that is a clear sign that you do in fact need it. Anxiety is quite difficult to overcome through self-help; it creates some form of a loop in your mind, making it very challenging to see things the way they really are. Conscious reasoning rarely changes the anxiety because it operates on a deeper level.

How to Overcome Anxiety

Anxiety can feel as if it is part of a person, and I hear from some of my clients that “maybe it’s the way I am,” although no one is anxious by default. Anxiety is a response of our protection system, and all we need to do is to find a way to make our mind understand that what it is protecting us from is not a danger to our life or wellbeing.

I tend to divide therapy for anxiety into two parts. Firstly, I help my clients to understand the anxiety, giving them tools to deal with it while reducing its presence in their lives. When we see a progress we start enriching their lives with new activities, views, beliefs. We add into their lives things that bring them more happiness. Sometimes when people start getting better they do not know what to do with it. They are not used to living in an ok state, so it’s really about transforming their lives and teaching them how to actually be happy. Sometimes the transformation is big, sometimes it’s small; this depends on the level of anxiety and what they really want to get out of the therapy.
